Music Industry Changes – EMI goes for bread?
How do you think this will affect the music industry in the long run? Business UK music company EMI Group has agreed to be bought by private equity firm Terra Firma for £ 3.2bn including debt. The group, whose artists include Robbie Williams and the Beatles, has been the subject of speculation last year his business has had problems. EMI, one of the "big world, four" companies disk, has suffered a decline in their fortunes over the past 18 months. Record sales have been affected by the trend for more digital downloading of music while that a high number of submissions from disk profile has been greatly disappointed. EMI announced a radical restructuring plan earlier this year's sales, resulting in the loss of hundreds of jobs in Europe and the USA. The company has been declining dramatically in recent months, said Thursday it had made £ 260m loss in the last year. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/6677875.stm
The writing has been on the wall for the greedy big four during some time. They demonstrated a complete inability and unwillingness to change and evolve with the times in the digital world. For too long have held all the strings – Deciding which artists to listen to his clique and the departments of R, and how much you pay for listening to artists all the time to make their own cuts obscene artists. For my part, will enjoy seeing the demise of the traditional music industry. It will not stop here. Oh how the mighty have fallen. Meanwhile, the industry is back in the hands of artists and the audience hears. Now we can make our own decisions about who is good, bad, etc. The Artists can easily promote and distribute their own music. Its all good.

The Piano: Everyman's Library-EMI Classics Music Companions
$4.59 Jeremy Siepmann has treated his subject, the piano, in two ways: as an instrument with its place in the development of musical style and as a social phenomenon with a profound influence on the spread of musical culture. The alternating development of these two themes, supported by perceptive observations on compositional procedure and richly illustrated with anecdotes and biographical sketches from a stunning gallery of virtuoso pianists, offers an unrivalled survey of what is probably the single most influential instrument in the history of Western music, and of the many geniuses, eccentrics, and drawing-room amateurs who helped to make it so. The immense riches of the EMI archive have been enthusiastically raided to provide classic recordings by Schnabel, Fischer, Solomon, Cortot, Gieseking, Horowitz, Moiseiwitsch, Rubinstein, Lipatti, and Michelangeli, as well as more recent giants of the keyboard. |

Various Artists - Insane Times: 25 British Psychedelic Artefacts From The EMI Vaults
$14.06 Audio Remasterer: Peter Mew.Recording information: Jackson Studios.Arrangers: Johnny Arthey; Len Beadle; Jeff Lynne; Les Reed; Mark Wirtz; Mike Vickers; Peter Eden; Andrew Lloyd Webber. The suitably titled Insane Times (2007) is a U.K. compilation marking the 40th anniversary of pop music`s psychedelic renaissance with over two dozen obscure gems from the voluminous EMI archives. The package`s chief compiler and researcher, John Reed, quickly points out in the preface to his track-by-track annotations that while a volume dedicated to EMI`s tie-dyed rarities should boast Pink Floyd`s "Vegetable Man," the Beatles` "Carnival of Light," and Donovan`s demo of "Hurdy Gurdy Man," these known and widely bootlegged selections could not be accessed due to "contractual reasons." While those specific songs may not have yet seen the digital light of day, there are still plenty of goodies that are getting well-deserved exposure. Some, for the first time, in quite literally decades. Several of the bands found on this anthology were home (albeit briefly) to up-and-coming stars. Before joining the ranks of Yes, Steve Howe contributed to Tomorrow`s sonic psychosis on "Real Life Permanent Dream." In deference to the liner notes, siblings Michael Giles and Peter Giles had yet to meet Robert Fripp when they were known as the Brain and responsible for the "Nightmares in Red" surreal pastiche of melody and dissonance. On the completely other side of the stylistic spectrum, former Yardbirds member Paul Samwell-Smith offers the dark, self-penned ballad "World Spinning Sadly." Incidentally, the Zonophone spin-off imprint is named for one of the earliest known portable turntables. It came housed in a self-contained case and was first used to demo the so-called "talking machines" in the more technologically challenged regions of the United States. ~ Lindsay Planer Copyright (C) Muze Inc. 2005. Various Artists - Insane Times: 25 British Psychedelic Artefacts From The EMI Vaults
$11.04 Audio Remasterer: Peter Mew.Recording information: Jackson Studios.Arrangers: Johnny Arthey; Len Beadle; Jeff Lynne; Les Reed; Mark Wirtz; Mike Vickers; Peter Eden; Andrew Lloyd Webber. 2005.
